In Indian vedic astrology Mangal Dosha or manglik dosha or kuja dosha astrology is an astrological combination that occurs if Mars (Mangal) is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the lagna/ascendant chart or moon ascendant also. A person born in the presence of this condition is termed a manglik. How can i check manglik, people will tell above conditions and will say manglik dosha matching should be required if mars present there. There are a total of twelve houses in a person’s astrological chart. The placement of the planet of Mars in any of the previously mentioned six houses causes Mangal Dosha. Given below are some cases where Mars even if it is in 2nd, 12th, 4th, 7th or 8th house the Manglik dosha ( or kuja dosha) gets cancelled: –

3. When Mars is in 8th house and to protect the Mangalya of the girl, especially in South India, the bride is married to a tree like Plantain tree (in some cases Pipal Tree). After the marriage is solemnized, the tree is chopped off signifying the death of husband thereby Dosha gets nullified. She will be ready for actual marriage.
4. In serious cases, Maha Mrityunjaya Homa / Navagraha Homa / Ayushya Homa may be required at the appropriate time.
5. Legend has that Savitri fought with Lord Yama and got her husband back to life. Therefore people believe that girls should perform Savitri Vrata regularly to protect their husband’s longevity.
6. Some people recommend wearing gems like Red Coral (Moonga). But I feel that by wearing these, you are strengthening Mars and his effect on those houses may increase manifold. As far as possible do not wear any of these.

Some additional recommended Remedies for Mangalik Dosha :-

There may be certain natal horoscopes where such cancellation factors may not exsits and thus , remedial measures for the appeasement of Mars become outmost necessary. One should fast on Tuesdays (sunrise to next day sunrise).

During the day, consume liquids without salt like tea, coffee, milk, fruit juice and curd. In the evening, draw a triangle with red kumkum (roli) on a plate and worship with Panchopachara [red sandalwood, red flowers, incense (dhoop), lighted lamp and food consecrated to a deity]. Thereafter, only before sunset, one may consume wheat bread, ghee and jaggery (unrefined cane sugar).

If the Mangalik Dosha is pronounced, then the Mangala Chandika Strotra should be recited daily for 21 times for 108 consecutive days. In the morning hours, one should sit facing the eastern direction, light a five stroked lamp and worship one’s deity (Ishta) and the planet Mars(Mangala) with Panchopachara. One may also wear a Mangal Kavach which gives protection from the inauspicious cosmic radiation of Mars.
