Coming to Practical Solution :

Depression is caused when a person is either thinking about some incident in the matters described in the preface paras. In either case the person is missing to live in the present. The body is unconscious about mind, it can not know the difference , whether the fear is created by actual situation or by just thought alone.

For example, let us assume you are walking in the road or strolling in a garden and suddenly you see a snake. Now the body will generate certain chemical to prepare you for fight or flight , at this point all the growth hormones in your body will shut off and all the survival hormone will activate. Now let us take an other example, you are viewing TV, a scenario where a lion is chasing a person the body will immediately generate the survival hormone, because of psychological factor.

The nature has given us a capability to bear upon a stress for a short period of time. An other example: you are watching TV: a zebra in the forest, runs for 20 to 30 mins to save itself from Lion; once escaped then it starts eating grass . And its body goes in to growth mode. But we humans are generating stress by thought alone. Our body is always working in survival mode which is one of the primary reason for depression.

So first be aware of the reason for the depression. Then make conscious effort alter your perception and state. For some period of time your mind will try to go to comfort zone as like zebra. After some consistent effort you can completely come out of depression.
